The short answer
Salesforce Agentforce is the agent layer of the Agentforce 360 Platform: agents built in Agentforce Builder, reasoning with the Atlas Reasoning Engine, grounded in Data 360, and acting on Salesforce records and flows. Pyrana is an agentic application platform that sits across systems, with one identity, one authorization model, and one audit record for every call. Choose Agentforce when the work lives in Salesforce. Choose Pyrana when the application spans ERP, warehouses, documents, and other systems, and approvals must bind to exact actions.
Agentforce is the agent layer of a CRM suite and its system of record. Pyrana is an application platform that works across systems of record, including Salesforce.
Choose Salesforce Agentforce when
- The process starts and ends in Salesforce: leads, cases, opportunities, field service, or commerce records.
- Your customer data is already unified in Data 360 and your admins already build in Flow.
- You want prebuilt, role-specific agents (Salesforce's job-ready agents) for sales and service rather than a custom application.
- You want agents to reach Salesforce from Slack or Claude through Slackforce or Claudeforce.
- Consumption pricing per action, with a published rate card, suits your budgeting.
Choose Pyrana when
- The application spans several systems (ERP, data warehouse, document stores, ticketing) and Salesforce is one source among them.
- Consequential actions, such as postings, payments, or purchase requests, must queue to a named approval lane with the exact arguments frozen until a person decides.
- The deliverable is a full business application with declared pages, a copilot, and versioned outputs that people review and revise.
- The platform must run in a dedicated private tenant or inside your own cloud infrastructure, with your own model keys.
- Agents need curated company knowledge with provable, content-addressed citations for every run.

Architecture
Agentforce is built into the Salesforce platform. Agents run on Salesforce infrastructure, read Salesforce records and Data 360, and act through Salesforce flows, actions, and APIs. Pyrana is an application platform that sits across systems. It owns identity, authorization, approvals, audit, and durable storage for the application, and reaches each system of record, Salesforce included, through governed tool sources. The difference is where the application's center of gravity lives.
What Agentforce is designed for
Salesforce names the whole stack the Agentforce 360 Platform. It lists a low-code agent builder, Agentforce Studio for building and managing agents, Agent Script for pairing deterministic logic with LLM reasoning, Data 360 for unified data, Model Context Protocol support, and Agentforce Observability. The Atlas Reasoning Engine runs the agent: Agent Script compiles into a structured Agent Graph that the engine consumes. Everything is designed to make Salesforce data and processes the natural home for agent work, and for organizations that run sales, service, and field operations in Salesforce, that is a strong position.
What AIforce and the Enterprise AI Harness add
At Dreamforce 2026, Salesforce introduced AIforce, which brings Salesforce into the surface a person already uses: Claudeforce inside Claude (beta), Slackforce inside Slack (generally available in October 2026), and Agentforce Coworker inside Salesforce (generally available). Salesforce also announced the Trusted Enterprise AI Harness on September 10, 2026, organized around six areas (context, agency, action, governance, security, models) and a new AI Control Plane for agents across Salesforce and third-party AI. Salesforce says many foundation technologies are available today and the unified experience begins rolling out in early fiscal 2028. Both moves extend Salesforce outward from its own system of record.
What Pyrana is designed for
Pyrana is built once and configured per application. An application is one App configuration plus a frontend experience: declared pages (surfaces), operations (targets), agents, workflows, tool bindings, access profiles, and approval policies. Every call, from a page, the copilot, the API, MCP, a schedule, or an external event, passes the same eight-step gate before it runs. Pyrana does not need to store source data. It treats Salesforce, an ERP, a warehouse, and a document store as peers.
Context and knowledge
Agentforce grounds agents in Data 360 (formerly Data Cloud), which Salesforce describes as the data engine of its platform; the rename took effect on October 14, 2025. Pyrana grounds agents in cortIQ, a context engine that stores company knowledge as typed, classified, evidence-backed Context Units, and accounts for what each run retrieved, injected, and cited. The two address different questions: what is true about the customer, and which business rules apply.
How the two approaches differ
Data 360 is strongest at unifying customer and enterprise records so an agent sees one profile. cortIQ is built for policy and procedural knowledge: each Context Unit carries a claim, its evidence passage with source and location, a knowledge type, a classification that governs how it may change, and a content-hash identity. Citations are content-addressed, so the exact business context behind any output is provable. A team can use both: Salesforce data reached live as a tool source, and the policy library curated in cortIQ.
Agent capabilities
Agentforce agents are authored in Agentforce Builder, which offers a document-style canvas, a Script view with real-time validation, and a preview that shows the agent's reasoning per message. Salesforce also ships prebuilt job-ready agents for roles such as inbound sales and customer service. Pyrana agents are configured in plain language, belong to an App, inherit its rules, and run inside durable workflows that fan out per entity.
Long-running and multi-agent work
Salesforce announced a long-horizon runtime at Dreamforce 2026, with memory across sessions, durable execution, and mid-course plan changes; Salesforce lists it as a pilot, with the agents it supports reaching general availability in November 2026. Agentforce Coworker builds a plan and orchestrates other agents. In Pyrana, the Harness runs workflows on Temporal workers: one workflow dispatches many specialized agents per entity and group in parallel, each publishing versioned resources back to the App, and a run waiting on an approval survives a restart or deploy.
Models
Salesforce announced Koa, its first CRM reasoning model, built on NVIDIA Nemotron, as a pilot with general availability expected in Winter 2026, and describes model routing in the Enterprise AI Harness. Pyrana assigns a model per agent through adapters for Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, Anthropic, Fireworks, Google Gemini, and others, with the client's own keys.
Governed actions and approvals
Salesforce provides approvals through Flow Approval Processes: stages of approval and background steps, where each approval step assigns a work item to a user, group, or queue. A flow can call an agent's invocable action and then request an approval. Pyrana binds approval to the tool call: a policy over typed arguments decides which invocations need a person, and the platform freezes the exact operation and arguments under a hash until a named lane decides.
Does Agentforce have human in the loop?
Yes. Approvers act in the Orchestration Work Guide, by email reply, or from the Approval Work Items list. Flow Approval Processes support dynamic routing based on data and business rules. Agent Fabric adds Trusted Agent Identity, including mobile authorization for high-risk actions, which Salesforce lists as generally available since April 2026. These are well suited to approvals over Salesforce records.
What Pyrana adds to the approval
In Pyrana the approval is part of the call path, not a separate process the agent hands off to. Reviewer eligibility is checked at decision time. The frozen invocation is revalidated before dispatch. Dispatch is idempotent, so a retry reuses the receipt rather than posting twice. A queued request is visibly different from a posted entry. The same policy applies whether the call came from a page, the copilot, a workflow, or an outside agent over MCP.
Building the application
On Salesforce, an agent extends an application that already exists: the Salesforce org, its objects, its pages, and its flows. On Pyrana, the application itself is the deliverable. A team writes one App configuration and a frontend experience, and the platform supplies identity, storage, orchestration, approvals, audit, and the copilot.
Where outputs go
Agentforce outputs land in Salesforce records or in the systems a flow or MuleSoft integration reaches. Pyrana outputs are resources: versioned, immutable, and attributed. Version 1 might be published by an agent run, and version 3 revised by the copilot on behalf of a person. Publishing against a stale version is refused. Outputs can also be delivered to systems of record, Salesforce among them.
Governance and security
Salesforce governs agents across vendors through MuleSoft Agent Fabric, a control plane with an AI Gateway, MCP Bridge, Trusted Agent Identity, agent scanners for Amazon Bedrock and Microsoft Foundry, and Agent Broker for orchestration. Pyrana governs the application: one authorization check on every call, layered by tenant, App membership, access profile, and scope entitlement, with the audit record written before execution.
Control plane or application platform
A control plane inventories and polices agents wherever they run. An application platform gives agents and people one permission model and one knowledge base for a specific body of work. Pyrana's view is that enterprises need both, and that they answer different questions. In Pyrana, unauthorized things read as absent rather than denied, reading a record and approving a change are separate permissions, and the user's own principal passes through to Snowflake and Databricks so warehouse row-level security applies to the same person.
Operations
Salesforce provides Agentforce Observability for monitoring and tracing, and batch testing in Agentforce Workbench for regression testing; the platform runs on Salesforce infrastructure. Pyrana captures every run's traces, tokens, and tool errors as JSON through the administrative API, and its eval pipeline runs deterministic checks first, then an LLM-as-judge stage in Agent Studio.
Change control
Agentforce changes follow Salesforce's release and deployment practices. In Pyrana, push compiles the App configuration into an immutable version; activate moves the active pointer, is audited, and requires an App owner; rollback is an activation of a prior version. Deploying a frontend image activates nothing.
Cost structure
Agentforce is priced on published consumption and per-user models: Flex Credits at $500 per 100,000 credits (20 credits per standard action, 30 per voice action), $2 per conversation, or per-user licenses, add-ons, and Max Editions. Data 360 is a separate cost. Pyrana is enterprise platform pricing plus implementation, with no per-action meter on the platform.
Time to first application differs by starting point. If the work is in Salesforce and the data is in Data 360, an Agentforce agent can start from a prebuilt job-ready agent. In Pyrana, with clean data available, an application typically takes about a week to stand up, and the frontend experience is the main effort. A first engagement, including SSO, access profiles, the approval policy, and loading the policy library into cortIQ, runs about six weeks.
What it takes to ship the same application
Reference application: an approval-gated procurement request. A person or agent drafts a purchase request; amounts above a threshold need a finance approver; the request waits durably for the decision; everything is recorded. Assume the requisition data lives partly in Salesforce and partly in an ERP.
| Component | On Salesforce Agentforce | On Pyrana |
|---|---|---|
| Request record and UI | A Salesforce object and page; team designs the object and layout | Declared surface and target in the App configuration; frontend experience built on the App shell |
| Drafting agent | Agentforce Builder and Agent Script, with actions over the object | Agent configured in plain language, bound to the procurement tools |
| ERP data | MuleSoft or an MCP connection; team builds and secures the integration | ERP as a tool source (REST, ODBC, or MCP) with a scoped binding per agent |
| Threshold rule | Flow Approval Process with a routing condition; team writes the condition | Tool approval policy over the typed amount argument |
| Finance approver | Approval work item to a user, group, or queue | Named approval lane; eligibility checked at decision time |
| Durable wait | Flow Approval Process holds the work item until a decision | Temporal workflow suspends and resumes; survives restart or deploy |
| Binding approval to the exact action | Team designs how the approved record maps to the ERP write | Frozen invocation under a hash, revalidated before idempotent dispatch |
| Audit | Salesforce record history and Agentforce Observability; ERP side logged separately | One execution row and audit record per call, written before dispatch |
| Policy knowledge | Knowledge or Data 360 content the agent is grounded in | Procurement policy as Context Units in cortIQ, cited per run |
Salesforce provides most of the parts needed when the request lives in Salesforce. The team's work grows with each system outside it.
Using them together
Many enterprises run Salesforce and will keep running it. A Pyrana App can read and write Salesforce records as a tool source, through REST APIs or an MCP server, under a scoped binding, with every call authorized and audited. A Pyrana App exposes its targets through its API and App MCP server, so an agent elsewhere, including one that supports MCP, can call a governed Pyrana operation as a user or service principal. A practical split: customer-facing sales and service agents stay in Agentforce, and cross-system applications such as financial close, procurement, or compliance review run on Pyrana, reading Salesforce where they need customer data.
When not to choose Pyrana
- The process lives entirely in Salesforce and your admins already build in Flow and Agentforce Builder.
- You want prebuilt sales or service agents running in weeks with little custom application work.
- Customer data is unified in Data 360 and that profile is the main thing the agent needs.
- You want Salesforce agents inside Slack or Claude through Slackforce or Claudeforce, with Salesforce managing the experience.
- You prefer a published per-action rate card over enterprise platform pricing.
